Pittsburgh is the host The “steel” city is rapidly becoming the “emerald” city making it the perfect North American host for the United Nation’s World Environment Day. During a six-week period from Earth Week through June 5 (World Environment Day), Pittsburgh will celebrate its continental importance with a series of events, including a global water conference, a world record attempting “Paddle at the Point”, and other grand activities that highlight the theme of “biodiversity: ecosystems management and the green economy.” Learn more here.
Pick it up Join an ambitious statewide effort to remove litter and trash from Pennsylvania's roadways, parks, forests, riverbanks, neighborhoods, and open spaces. Through May 31, the Great American Cleanup of PA will involve community and civic associations, school and youth groups, families and friends, hunting and fishing clubs, sport teams and others. Registered events can get free cleanup supplies, such as bags, gloves, and vests donated by PennDOT and Keep America Beautiful. During Pick It Up PA Days - April 17 to May 1 - the PA Department of Environmental Protection and participating landfills are sponsoring free disposal. Help make your community clean and green.
