Get Involved

It's Up to You

The future enjoyment of our woods, water, and wildlife depends on each one of us taking a step for conservation. The ways to make a difference are boundless. Join a state park friend's group. Become a DCNR conservation volunteer. Plant trees next to streams. Buy native plants for your own backyard. Speak up for greenways and good planning in your community. Contribute to a local conservancy. Conservation starts with you and ends with a better Pennsylvania.

Getting involved in conservation can be as simple as starting with just one small step, or you can embark on a journey of several steps toward a conservation lifestyle change. We want to help you on your way to stewardship with some options based on three levels of commitment that balance with the time, and energy levels you have on any given day, weekend, or a lifelong project you have in mind. The cumulative effect of these conservation efforts locally, as well as globally will benefit us all.

Simple Commitments are just that “simple.” Here are some great links to organizations that specialize in tips and tricks for that 5-minute conservation fix you can do every day. They can become as normal as remembering to brush your teeth everyday.

Next Steps when you are ready for a little more involvement and are hooked on the “natural high” of doing something good for the environment, here are some links to organizations that can get you involved in a projects that might last a couple of hours, might take some research to do it right, or you can to become a member of an organization that meets regularly.

Lifestyle Changes require more time, research, and commitment but also come with the most satisfaction and personal growth and reward. The following organizations can help you get involved in leading the way in your community and your life toward becoming a champion of the environment.

No matter where you begin, you’re a PA iCon because you took that first step, or stepped up what you are already doing. Everyone can benefit from learning from why you are doing what you are doing.
